If someone dies without having written a Will, their relatives or next of kin will apply for a Grant of Letters of Administration. The Grant of Probate and the Grant of Letters of Administration formally appoints the executor/administrator to deal with the deceased’s estate allowing them to manage and collect the deceased’s assets, pay their debts and distribute the estate in accordance with the terms of the Will or in accordance with the rules of intestacy.
